Josie's First Day of School in California!

Can I just tell you that she never looked back?!?!

She walked right in and went to work with her classmates. She was so excited to start school - the first thing she said when she woke up was, "Today's the day I go to school!!"

And, of course, the tradition continues... Roses from Daddy on the first day of school:

Today, I'm just going to sit and enjoy the silence. I hope when I pick Josie up that she had a fantastic first day.

And also, this is just a quick shout out to my Goddaughter Katie - who turns 22 today! I haven't seen her in quite a few years but she is beautiful, smart and just the same sweet girl I fell in love with all those years ago. Happy Birthday Katie!!

  1. OMG... Josie- you look beautiful.. I love ur outfit and you hair looks great... Miss you sweet girl.. Hope you had the best day ever...
Meagan misses you and wishes you were here to paint and play baries with her.

  2. I can't believe how quickly she's growing up! What a sweetheart! :)

  3. My dearest friend sent me a link to your blog and said that I had to read it because your life and mine seem to be freakishly similar at the moment. As I read your posts all I could think was that if I changed the names in your blog to the names of my family, everyone back at home would know exactly what I am going through!
We moved to California (Orange County) this summer from Texas...moving from a 6500 sq ft house into a 2200 sq ft house (so I totally feel your pain AND your stuffed garage). I have a 1st grader adopted from China and a daughter starting her freshman year of high school. We had to leave two of our daughters behind because they are in college in Texas, but that may very well be the only difference you and I have right now.
I can't say that I am loving CA, but I don't hate it either...just finding it hard to make friends here and really missing the friends I have back home.
I look forward to seeing how you survive all these gives me hope to know that someone else out there is going through exactly what I am going through and still trying to keep a sense of humor about it all.

  4. @Eric & Karen:
Thanks so much for contacting me! You must email me and give me the low down on how things are going for you. Like you, I don't love CA, but don't hate it. Having our family together in one place is obviously the most important thing - I can't imagine how difficult it was to leave your daughters in TX - even if they are in college (They're always our babies, aren't they?!).

Please let me know how your little one is adjusting to OC. Unlike Northern California, I haven't found a lot of resources for things like Chinese school, etc. here in OC - but, honestly haven't really had the time to search. Josie is the only Asian child in her pre-school class (as she was in VA) and in her ballet class. That's not a big thing for me, but I was hoping for more cultural diversity than we had in VA.

It's only been a month for us - so I'm keeping an open mind and trying to be a bit more open to new experiences, places and people.

Seriously, get a hold of me at - there's an event at the end of the month at Disneyland that my friend, Donna, let me know about... (She's a CA adoptive parent who has been SOOO helpful & supportive!)

  5. Josie looks like she's grown so much since we've seen her. Give her kisses from Emma. Glad she had a great school experience. Miss you all.
